Gravel, E. (2018). Olga: We're Out of Here! Harper Collins Canada. Olga wants to be an astronaut so that she and Meh can try to find Meh's home planet. Elise Gravel's classic comic illustrations, hilarious word bubbles, space travel facts, and a diverse cast of memorable characters makes this graphic novel complete.

Cartoon Saloon and Melusine Aircraft Pictures. (2018). The Breadwinner: A Graphic Novel. Groundwood Books. This beautiful graphic-novel adaptation of The Breadwinner animated film tells the story of eleven-year-old Parvana who must disguise herself as a boy to support her family during the Taliban’s rule in Afghanistan.

Kinney, J. (2007). Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Amulet Books. It’s a new school year, and Greg Heffley finds himself starting middle school. Middle school is where small and weak kids have to share the hallways with kids who are taller, stronger, and meaner. Greg is happy to have his best friend, Rowley, along with him as they experience middle school. However, when Rowley starts to become a star, Greg uses his friend's popularity to his own advantage.

However, now Cece is starting a new school, which is scary, even more so with a giant hearing aid strapped to your chest!

Terry, L. (2017). Graveyard Shakes. Graphix Publishing. Katia and Victoria are sisters and also scholarship students at a private boarding school. Victoria is always going out of her way to try and fit in, while Katia is pretty much unapologetic about her quirks, even though her classmates tease her about her behaviors. After a fight at school, Katia runs away and doesn't return. And when Victoria goes looking for her, she enters a graveyard and accidentally falls into the underworld!

Tolstikova, D. (2015). A Year Without Mom. Groundwood Books. Dasha lives in Moscow and is unhappily surprised when her mother decides to spend a year in America. Readers will find an entertaining situation in which Skye's father and step mother (aka step monster) sign her up for summer camp. The only problem is she gets on the wrong bus and goes to a camp full of monsters! Will she make it out alive?

Boothby, I. & Illus. by Nina Matsumoto. (2018). Sparks! Graphix Publishing. August is a brilliant inventor who just happens to be afraid of the outside. Charlie is a pilot who doesn't seem to be afraid of anything. Together these friends save lives every day. August and Charlie also happen to be cats who pilot a powerful, mechanical dog suit. Eager to leap into danger, they also need to find a way out!

Arni, S. & Illus. by Moyna Chitrakar. (2011). Sita's Ramayana. Groundwood Books. This story is told from the perspective of the queen, Sita. It explores ideas of right and wrong, compassion, trust, honor, and the terrible price that war exacts from women, children, animals, and nature. Sita & Rama are banished from their kingdom. Shortly afterwards, Sita is captured by King Ravana who imprisons her. Will Rama be able to rescue her?

Clanton, B. (2018). Peanut Butter and Jelly: A Narwhal and Jelly Book #3. Tundra Books. Narwhal and Jelly are back and Narwhal has a new obsession, peanut butter! He's so obsessed he even wants to change his name to . . . that's right . . . Peanut Butter!
